Edward John Shaxted is the author of this website.
Born in Bedford, England he initially lived in Biggleswade. The family moved to his grandfather's (Ernest John) house at 105 Dulwich Road, Holland on Sea, near Clacton in Essex when he was just over two years old. He went to primary school at Holland Park County Primary school before sitting he eleven plus examination in 1958. After passing this examination he moved to Clacton County High School. There he did his GCE examinations before doing physics, chemistry, botany and bioolgy at A level. he gained a place at medical school and studied at The London Hospital in Whitechapel, London. He studied there from 1965 - 1970 qualifying with the MB BS degrees of the university of London. Whilst at medical school he joined the Royal Air Force on a cadetship.
After qualifying in medicine he undertook house jobs at Whipps Cross Hospital and his first obstetric job at St Mary's Hospital in London. Always intending to be a general practitioner, he moved to Reading to do a casualty job. At Reading he met his future wife Daphne.
Airforce life then beckonned, initially posted to Swinderby followed by several general medical posts culminating in a most pleasant six months at RAF Wittering. He then started to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at RAF Hospital Halton followed by RAF Hospital Ely. Whilst there he married Daphne and bought his first house at 14 King Edgar Close, Ely.
Although working in Ely, Giles was born in Cambridge after Edward had returned from a posting to Cyprus.
After leaving the airforce the family emigrated to Australia. Here Edward worked in private practice in Melbourne. Daphne was unhappy about remaining in Australia and they returned to England. A registrar job in Cambridge followed whilst they all continued to live in their first house in Ely. A move to 21 Troutbeck Crescent, Nottingham followed the appointment to senior registrar. Mark was born in Nottingham.
Finally Edward achieved a consultant post in Northampton. Here he started in NHS practice and built a successful private practice. After enlarging his home in Northampton, Edward built (in partnership wth his brother in law Alan) a house in Spain www.casacada.com. He also purchased Kingswood to convert to premises for his private practice.
